Hello, my name is Tammy Payghutqaq Gologergen; I was born and raised in Nome to Tom and Sharon Sparks and I am the oldest of three siblings (Rhonda, James and Rena). Naturally, I enjoy camping, boating, picking berries, hunting and fishing. I attended Nome Public Schools, which I am proud to say I have graduated in 1998 from Nome Beltz High School. Upon graduating from high school, I started working with Norton Sound Health Corporation as a Dental Assistant.

Working as a dental assistant, I had the opportunity to travel to the 15 villages within the Bering Strait region. While traveling, I gained a greater love for our region and what it has to offer. Working for 5 years encouraged me to pursue advanced opportunities in my chosen career. I had the good fortune to attend school at the University of Otago, in Dunedin, New Zealand. Studying for two years, I have obtained an associates degree in Dental Therapy.

The career of Dental Therapy is blossoming and the word is getting out about our new profession. As a pioneer in Dental Therapy in the Norton Sound region, I was featured in many media publications such as The Mukluk Telegraph, Anchorage Daily News, Kaniqsirugut News and KTUU Channel 2 News.

I chose to expand my skills and training from New Zealand in Savoonga which is located on St. Lawrence Island, for many reasons. First of all, my mother is Siberian Yupik, who was born in Savoonga. I also have many relatives both in Savoonga and Gambell. I had the desire to improve the quality of dental care for the people of St. Lawrence Island. I also wanted to learn more of the language and the culture. Living in Savoonga has given me personal and professional growth opportunities that I have gained. I have gained confidence and skill in my abilities to provide an increased level of healthcare in the Norton Sound region.

It would be a great honor to become a part of history by becoming an All Alaska Sweepstakes Queen. I feel confident that I would represent the race with the utmost respect and pride. I appreciate and look forward to your votes and support the opportunity before me in my desire to become the All Alaska Sweepstakes Queen for 2008.
