Where did you grow up and how long did you live there?
Mainly raised in Portland, Oregon. I lived there from 1964 to 1990, also lived in North Dakota, Montana and Seattle, Washington as a child.

When and why did you move to the place you live now?
I live in Nome, Alaska I moved to Nome October 1994 for work and mushing.

If you live in Alaska:

How long have you lived here?
I have lived in Alaska since 1990

If you were not born in Alaska, when did you come here to live and why?
I came to visit Alaska two law school classmates. I was taking some time off from work. I met Vern Halter and he offered me a job handling for him. After a winter, I decided to stay on and work for Vern and Susan. They gave me the opportunity to run a young teamin the 1993 Iditarod. I decided I wanted to continue mushing.

I am just a recreational musher.

I like to travel with my dogs. My dogs come from a variety of sources. I have some who can claim "Granite" (from Susan Butcher's kennel) and "Andy" (from Rick Swenson's Kennel) as great, great grandparents. I have some who are out of Joe Runyon and Husila Village dog. I have a dog from the Kozebue Nordlum line.

I've been lucky with dogs too. They are hard, staedy workers. They have always been willing to go - not fast, but then I like to see the scenery.

I decided to enter the All Alaska Sweepstakes to be part of history and travel the trail and pretend I am in the "old days". Since I live in Nome, I would be very dissappointed with myself in a fews years if I let this opportunity go by.

What is your current occupation and how long have you worked in this occupation?
I am a lawyer. I work as a Public Defender. I have done this work for 20 years.

What organization(s) do you belong to?
Alaska & American Cival Liberties Union, Nome Kennel Club, National Association of Cham. Def Lawyers, Alaska Trail lawyers Association.

What are your hobbies and interest, other than dog mushing?
Reading and knitting

General Information:

Write a little about yourself, your background, your dogs and why you have signed up for the 2008 All Alaska Sweepstakes:
I feel that I am very fortunate to have fallen into mushing. Mushing has been a wonderful and very important part of my life. I think my Norweigen heritage came out when I moved to Alaska and found I liked the cold.
